The Catholic University of America
Eighteenth American Cardinals Dinner

Las Vegas, Nevada
Friday, April 27, 2007

Five American Cardinals attended the dinner hosted by Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, Bishop of Las Vegas, and Very Reverend David M. O'Connell, C.M., CUA President. Also in attendance were Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl, CUA Chancellor, Bishop William A. Lori, CUA Chairman of the Board, and Archbishop Pietro Sambi, The Apostolic Nuncio.

Cardinals O'Malley, Rigali, Egan, Maida and Mahony con-celebrated the American Cardinals Dinner Liturgy held at the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer in Las Vegas.

Father O'Connell delivered the homily.

Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, Bishop of Las Vegas and dinner co-host (center), was the principle celebrant at the liturgy.

Bishop Pepe was all smiles as he exited the Shrine after Mass.

CUA Chancellor and Archbishop of Washington, Most Reverend Donald W. Wuerl, was escorted into the Cardinals Dinner by CUA senior, Vanessa Tendick.

CUA senior, Brandon Pettit, was scheduled to introduce Father O'Connell to the dinner guests--but not until he made his debut as a magician on stage in Vegas!

Father O'Connell welcomed and thanked those in attendance for coming and supporting the cause--The Catholic University of America.

Co-host, Bishop Pepe, expressed how proud he was to host the American Cardinals in his diocese.

The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Pietro Sambi, greeted CUA Trustee and WUSA-TV9 (Washington, DC) news anchor, Andrea Roane, during a break in the festivities.

Mrs. Camille Ruvo, chair of the board of Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, accepted the American Cardinals Encouragment Award on their behalf.

Anthony DiMatteo, Patrick Davey and Taylor Mitchell, members of the CUA President's Society, entertained those gathered at the Las Vegas dinner.

His Eminence, Cardinal Sean F. O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap, Archbishop of Boston, invited everyone to the Nineteenth American Cardinals Dinner on April 25, 2008, in Boston.
